As we mentioned last month, our teams have made significant progress and we're ready to start the Closed Beta phase.
Working with you to create the ultimate Dune experience is an important process. We want to gather as much qualitative and quantitative feedback as possible at this stage to keep the game on the right track. We also look forward to chatting with you about the game!
The first playtest took place in early December with a very limited number of players descending on Arrakis to survive deadly hazards on the most dangerous planet in the universe. We kept it small on purpose and are incredibly grateful to everyone who showed interest by signing up and to those who were selected, played the game, and gave us their constructive feedback. We have gained good insights and want to keep the momentum going. We have another test coming up and have sent out emails to a new pool of players in the last few days. Check your inboxes to see if you are among the limited group invited to a playtest early next year, but please be discreet and refrain from public celebrations.
We know many more are looking forward to participating in the playtests. Rest assured that we will be organizing more closed beta tests to try out the new Dune: Awakening build. First of all, we'd like to welcome all the new faces that have joined our Discord over the past few days and weeks. Arrakis may be the most dangerous planet in the universe, but this hideout serves as a haven where you can practice your water discipline and chat with other Sleepers.
Many of you have already seen our latest video and know that we're gearing up for the next Closed Beta Test (if not, stop reading now and watch it!). We have started sending invites already, and some of you received a broken link – this has now been fixed, and everyone affected should have received a secondary email from us. Sorry about this!
This PC-only test will take place in February, and similar to all previous tests, our primary mechanism for selecting players for this test phase is the beta profile survey. If you don't want to sign the NDA or prefer to wait for later tests, as long as you have already signed up for the beta on the official Dune: Awakening website, you can sit back and relax as we have noted your interest.

What do you say we go back to where it all began?

Almost 60 years ago, Frank Herbert wrote a book called Dune. It was turned away by over twenty publishers before finally being picked up by a publisher mainly known for auto repair manuals. Sadly, the editor’s risk didn’t pay off as the book sold poorly, and he was fired. However, thanks to word-of-mouth, knowledge of the book soon began to spread. By the next year, it had won a Hugo and a Nebula award.

Since then, Dune has become one of science and political fiction’s all time greats. It’s quoted as the best-selling sci-fi novel of all time, and has inspired countless people with its philosophy, rich world, and epic scope. Seeing that many of you were considering reading it for the first time, or had just started it, we had an idea. To better understand and appreciate the classic that inspired Dune: Awakening and Villeneuve’s movies, we decided to start a book club of our own and read the first book together with you all!

Just like a Book Club that gathers in a local cafeteria or around a cozy fireplace, we’ll meet every two weeks here on the Dune: Awakening Discord and discuss the part we’ve read.

For those of you who might not have the book, we’ll be giving away Kindle eBooks! If you reside in the United States and would like a chance to win, send a message with why you want to read Dune in the ⁠dune-book-club channel! We’ll reach out to winners next week, so make sure to keep an eye on your notifications! You’ll need an Amazon/Kindle account to receive your eBook.

And melee will almost always be your only option against shielded enemies, for example.

  10. WHAT IS THE SURVIVAL ASPECT OF THE GAME? In Dune: Awakening you will have to survive the harshness of Arrakis and never underestimate its challenges. We're focusing on a few core pillars, such as shelter, traversal, water and heat. Our goal is to design these game systems in a way that feels challenging but is not overly punishing.
  11. WHAT IS THE COMBAT LIKE IN DUNE: AWAKENING? Dune: Awakening features 3rd person combined arms combat with fast-paced interplay between infantry, ground, and flying vehicles. You will be able to use everything at your disposal, from Holtzman gadgets and melee techniques to an array of ranged firearms and other abilities taught by the Great Schools of Imperium.
  12. IS THE GAME GOING TO HAVE PVP? Yes, Dune: Awakening has player-versus-player combat. You can do it individually, or you can band together with other players.
  13. ARE YOU FORCED TO PVP? No, the game world has specific regions for PvP. While outside of these regions, you are not an eligible target nor combatant for PvP. (edited)
  14. WILL THERE BE CRAFTING IN THE GAME? In Dune: Awakening you can build and craft your equipment and vehicles, which are further customizable with modules to adapt to different gameplay situations and your needs. The game will use a schematics system, where you will be able to unearth new crafting schematics and use them to create unique items to use for you, or sell to other players on an exchange.
  15. CAN YOU BUILD YOUR OWN BASE IN THE GAME? Yes! You can build your base in Dune: Awakening by using different materials and selecting from different building sets. Place and connect different building pieces and make sure they are structurally stable. You will then have to defend it against the environmental hazard of Arrakis, and any enemies you may encounter on your journey.   16. WHAT DOES A PLAYER-DRIVEN ECONOMY MEAN? Dune: Awakening will support a large number of players per server who will be able to control resources, prices and even item supply and demand, with some items potentially being craftable only by specific players on the server.

The first playtest took place in early December with a very limited number of players descending on Arrakis to survive deadly hazards on the most dangerous planet in the universe. We kept it small on purpose and are incredibly grateful to everyone who showed interest by signing up and to those who were selected, played the game, and gave us their constructive feedback. We have gained good insights and want to keep the momentum going. We have another test coming up and have sent out emails to a new pool of players in the last few days. Check your inboxes to see if you are among the limited group invited to a playtest early next year, but please be discreet and refrain from public celebrations.

We know many more are looking forward to participating in the playtests. Rest assured that we will be organizing more closed beta tests to try out the new Dune: Awakening build. Many of you have already seen our latest video and know that we're gearing up for the next Closed Beta Test (if not, stop reading now and watch it!). We have started sending invites already, and some of you received a broken link – this has now been fixed, and everyone affected should have received a secondary email from us. Sorry about this!

This PC-only test will take place in February, and similar to all previous tests, our primary mechanism for selecting players for this test phase is the beta profile survey. If you don't want to sign the NDA or prefer to wait for later tests, as long as you have already signed up for the beta on the official Dune: Awakening website, you can sit back and relax as we have noted your interest.

Additionally, we want to give everyone here on our Discord an extra chance to participate in the test! If you are willing to sign an NDA and have completed the beta profile survey then... react to this announcement!
