In Dune:Awakening, players will have the option to learn abilities based on the Mentats[1] of the Dune Universe. In the canon of the books and films, Mentats are effectively human computers, specially trained to expand their intellect and logical reasoning to a superhuman level, and often act as high-ranking advisors to the leadership of the Great Houses.
Mentat abilities appear to be ancillary, to support in a battle scenario rather than as a directly offensive skillset.
Scouting
The first Mentat ability confirmed by a video short[2] was scouting. To quote Creative Director Joel Bylos in the video:
If one of your friends is a mentat, they can scout the enemy camp and reveal the locations of enemies and let you know where exactly to work as a group and how to attack
Followed by an in-game demonstration. The character holds their hand into a fist as white lines form diamond and circle patterns, before clenching their fist to send a white scanning wave over the nearby terrain, highlighting an enemy in bright white.
It has been mentioned in discord chats that this ability is line-of-sight only[3], however can be used to great effect when combined with a tool to scan for signs of life first[4]
Not much more is known about the details of how this ability is learned or the technical details of it's cost, cooldown or levels.
