I. Imperial Manifesto Imperial Manifesto
Mission Statement:
The world of Arrakis has succumbed to a reign of murder, wickedness, and darkness. From the moment our glorious Consul set foot on this ancient planet, the air of evil gripped his heart as he witnessed the suffering of its people and the desperate need for order and justice. Arrakis is a treacherous land, ruled by ruthless warlords who lack compassion and love for their subjects. The House of Aurelian, following in the footsteps of our noble forefathers who brought order to the Empire’s conquered lands, pledges to restore justice and bring order to Arrakis. We are here to establish a new era of peace, and those who dare stand in our way will be conquered. Core Values: Order: The foundation of a stable and prosperous society. Justice: Fairness and equity for all, enforced without compromise.
Motto: "Eternal Sun"
Imperial Decree: The Sun has blessed House Aurelian with its radiance; woe to those who dare oppose us.
II. Imperial Lore
Origins of House Aurelian
House Aurelian's legacy began under the reign of Emperor Elrood IX, during a time when the Imperium was rife with corruption and political intrigue. Gaius Aurelian, a brilliant and loyal general, was the founder of the house. Born into a modest military family on Kaitain, Gaius rose through the ranks of the Sardaukar, the Emperor’s elite forces, known for their ruthless efficiency and unparalleled combat prowess.
Gaius’s loyalty and dedication caught the attention of Emperor Elrood IX, who recognized in him a rare blend of military genius and unshakeable integrity. Tasked with quelling rebellions and maintaining order in the most treacherous regions of the Imperium, Gaius became known as the “Iron Fist of the Empire.” His successes in battle and his refusal to engage in the corrupt practices that plagued the Imperial court made him both revered and feared.
As Gaius’s power and influence grew, so did the envy of those around him. His rise was seen as a threat by the corrupt officials who thrived under the old Emperor’s reign. Despite their growing hostility, Gaius was officially granted the title of Duke and established House Aurelian, with the family crest being a golden laurel on a white background, symbolizing purity, honor, and the unwavering order that Gaius sought to bring to the galaxy.
However, the machinations against House Aurelian began in earnest with the ascension of Shaddam IV to the throne. The new Emperor, under the influence of the Spacing Guild and other powerful factions, viewed Gaius's unwavering loyalty to justice as a potential threat. House Aurelian, though powerful, was seen as an obstacle to the Emperor’s absolute control.
Gaius continued to serve the Empire with distinction, but the enemies of House Aurelian were relentless. They began to weave a web of deceit around the family, spreading rumors, forging evidence, and gradually eroding Gaius’s standing in the court. Despite his best efforts to clear his name, Gaius found himself increasingly isolated as his enemies closed in.
Notable Figures
Gaius Aurelian – Founder of House Aurelian, Duke of Kaitain
Gaius Aurelian, the “Iron Fist of the Empire,” was the first Duke of House Aurelian. A legendary general in the Sardaukar, his commitment to justice and order earned him both reverence and envy. His fall from grace and subsequent death marked the beginning of House Aurelian’s struggles.
Seraphina Aurelian – Matriarch of House Aurelian, Bene Gesserit Adept
Seraphina Aurelian, wife of Gaius and mother to their children, was a powerful Bene Gesserit adept. Her influence in the political sphere was subtle yet profound, as she navigated the dangerous currents of Imperial politics with grace and cunning. Seraphina was instrumental in preserving the family’s legacy during their darkest hours.
Cassius Aurelian – Firstborn Son and Heir Apparent
Cassius Aurelian was the pride of House Aurelian, a brilliant tactician and warrior like his father. Destined to inherit the mantle of leadership, Cassius’s life was tragically cut short in a carefully orchestrated accident, a blow from which the family never fully recovered.
Livia Aurelian – Younger Sister, Diplomat, and Strategist
Livia Aurelian was known for her sharp mind and political acumen. She served as the family’s chief diplomat, securing alliances and navigating the treacherous waters of Imperial politics. Livia’s efforts kept House Aurelian from total ruin after their fall, working tirelessly to support her brother Lucius during his exile.
General Marcus Aurelian – Brother of Gaius, Commander of the Sardaukar
General Marcus Aurelian, the younger brother of Gaius, was one of the few commanders to rival his brother’s military prowess. Loyal to both the Emperor and his family, Marcus was a formidable force in the Sardaukar. His mysterious death in battle is widely believed to have been an assassination orchestrated by the enemies of House Aurelian.
Tiberius Aurelian – Uncle of Lucius, Naval Commander
Tiberius Aurelian, the brother of Gaius, commanded the Imperial Navy with distinction. A brilliant strategist, he was responsible for several key victories that expanded the Emperor’s control over the Outer Worlds. Tiberius remained loyal to House Aurelian until his death, which occurred under suspicious circumstances during a campaign.
Exile and Rebirth
The Fall of Gaius Aurelian:
As the political climate within the Imperium grew increasingly volatile under Emperor Shaddam IV, the conspiracies against House Aurelian reached their climax. Gaius, who had long been a thorn in the side of the corrupt officials, was accused of treason and conspiracy against the Emperor. The charges, fabricated by his enemies, were backed by falsified evidence and coerced testimonies.
Despite his protests and the loyalty of his troops, Gaius was brought to trial in a kangaroo court, where the verdict was predetermined. He was stripped of his titles, his lands were confiscated, and his family was disgraced. Gaius was executed on charges of treason, but not before ensuring that his son, Lucius, would be sent to safety.
Lucius’s Exile to Arrakis:
Following the execution of Gaius, Lucius Aurelian, the youngest son of the disgraced Duke, was exiled to Arrakis, a barren, harsh world known for its treacherous environment and the valuable spice melange. Lucius’s exile was intended to be a death sentence; the harsh conditions of Arrakis were seen as uninhabitable for those unprepared for its dangers.
However, Lucius did not succumb to despair. Guided by his father’s teachings and the wisdom of his mother Seraphina, Lucius began to rebuild, determined to restore the honor of House Aurelian. The story of his rise from exile and his eventual return to prominence on Arrakis is a tale yet to be fully written, but it is said that the sands of Arrakis will bear witness to the rebirth of House Aurelian.
Rebirth: To Be Added
Cultural Practices
House Aurelian is steeped in tradition, with a culture that revolves around the values of honor, order, and justice. The golden laurel on their emblem is a symbol of these principles, representing their eternal commitment to bringing light and order to the darkest corners of the galaxy.
Central to their cultural identity is the worship of the Sun, seen as a divine entity that grants life, power, and authority. The head of House Aurelian is revered as the "Solar Regent," a title that conveys their sacred duty to uphold the Sun’s radiance in all they do. The family’s connection to the Sun is celebrated through various rituals, including the "Dawn Rite," a ceremony performed at sunrise that reaffirms the house’s bond with the divine.
House Aurelian also places great emphasis on martial discipline and the training of its members. The "Sun’s Path" is a rite of passage that all young Aurelians must undertake. This series of trials, which test both physical and mental strength, culminates in the "Trial of the Sun," where the initiate must endure a day in the unforgiving heat of Arrakis’s desert, symbolizing their endurance and commitment to their house’s ideals.
The house is governed by a strict hierarchy, with each member playing a specific role in the maintenance of the house’s honor and legacy. The Consul, or Solar Regent, is the supreme authority, advised by a council of trusted family members and military commanders. All decisions are made with the goal of preserving the house’s integrity and ensuring its survival against the many enemies that seek to destroy it.
