Wiki:StyleGuide
[This guide is still subject to feedback from the Wiki community, and will be reviewed on 2024-09-19]
This is the style guide for the Dune: Awakening Community Wiki to ensure standardisation and consistency across the pages of the wiki. This generally follows guidance of the Wikipedia Manual of Style. Generally speaking, contributors should follow the guidance listed there for grammar, punctuation and vocabulary, except where it would conflict with the below points, which take priority.
Headings
- Do not use h1 headings (
= With One Equals sign =
) as every page already has a h1. - Instead use h2
==With Two Equals signs or Heading Ctrl+2==
- Every page should start with an opening paragraph to introduce the subject, provide a bit of wider context
h2/==
headings should be used for top level categories, thenh3/===/Sub-heading 1
for subcategories.- Do not go any lower than
h4/====/Sub-heading 3
. Most pages won't need to go lower than 2 anyway - At the bottom of each page, include references with a header:
== References == <references/>
Images
- Where possible, include at least one image, as it helps with embeds and gives visual context
- ALL images should include ALT text
Categories
- Every page should have at least 1 category
- Every page should be reachable from the main page with 3 clicks (links/categories etc) maximum
- All game pages written before Open beta testing should be tagged with Category:PreBeta
- All game pages written between Open beta testing and release should be tagged with Category:Beta, and PreBeta pages will be archived.
- All game pages written after release will not need a tag, as they will always contain up-to-date and finalised information.
Writing
- All dates should be in ISO 8601 format
YYYY-mm-DD
Where time is relevant specify time zone -YYYY-mm-DD HH:MM UTC
- The default wiki language is English
- Writing style should be clear, concise and neutral - however this is still a game wiki, so it does not have to be overly formal
Sourcing
- During Pre-Beta, the only information available about the game is from public sources. Any specific claim made MUST have a publicly accessible primary source
- Prefer to use sources listed in Category:Wiki:Sources - if a new source is found, please add it to the relevant list
- Discord messages should not be used as the sole source for a page, only to add context or further expansion on a subject already disclosed in a public source
- No 'leaked' information or content that would break the Closed Beta NDA is allowed to be added to the Wiki. Breaking this rule will result in the material being immediately removed, the contributor being blocked from the wiki, details will be forwarded to Funcom staff.
- After Open beta testing, all information for game pages should come from the game itself, and external sources should not be required.
