Dune Awakening will feature many survival mechanics based around the sands of Arrakis. Among the most important of these will be the need to stay hydrated.
In-game
in Dune Awakening the player will start fighting the heat of the desert sun and possibly be driven to desperation over their need of moisture.[1]
To fulfill the players’ need for water, Dune Awakening employs stillsuits to maintain the players' water content[1] as well as: Windtraps[2](base part(s)), Dew Fields[3][4], fibrous plants with water[5], and finally, blood harvesting[6].
If the player spends too much time in the sun, they will experience sunstroke, giving debuffs and draining the player's water meter even more[7]
However, there will be more uses for water than simply keeping the player alive. Eventually, the player will need water for industrial crafting and even in the endgame political system.[8]
Stillsuits will also offer vast hydration benifits via the conservation of the user's moisture. Furthermore, a second water meter will appear besides the built in one. As the main meter decreases the stillsuit's will increase due to it capturing the water being lost.[8]
In Universe
In the Dune universe on Arrakis, staying hydrated is among the greatest challenges to anyone not in a position of power. As such, water is a deeply coveted and sacred substance, no moisture should be wasted.
