The sigil reflects not only their presence in the skies, but their emergence from the infernal heat of Arrakis itself.

The Black Sands Squadron-the elite aerial assault & exploration force of Arrakis is now recruiting. We seek ornithopter pilots who are ready to bring the fury of the desert down upon our enemies. This is not a unit for the timid. We strike hard, we leave nothing standing, and we are always the first in last out. Our missions are brutal. Our resolve is absolute.
Squadron Composition
Squadron Commander GunnerGat callsign “Killjoy” – Cold as the deep desert at night and twice as deadly, Killjoy is the founder and iron-fisted commander of the Black Sands Squadron. Once a battlefield ghost during the slave uprisings of Bela Tegeuse, Killjoy vanished from official Atreides records—only to re-emerge years later at the helm of a ragged band of ex-slaves turned elite warriors.
He forged the Squadron from the broken. Every pilot under his command was once shackled in chains. Now, they fly as symbols of fear and fire.
Killjoy teaches only one law:
“You are not forgiven. You are forged. The sky is your blade. Use it.”
His tactics blend Sardaukar-level brutality with Atreides precision—aerial annihilation, rapid-deployment kill teams, and surgical PvP strikes designed to leave no trace but fire and ruin. On the battlefield, his presence is both a command and a warning.
Squadron XO Dosmas callsign "Scorch” - Feared and revered, Scorch is the blade beneath Killjoy’s will — the enforcer of the Black Sands' code and the nightmare of any enemy who survives the first strike. Once a slaver’s hound under Harkonnen rule, Scorch burned his past in blood and flame to earn his place among the Redeemed. Now, he answers only to House Atreides—and death.
Squadron Lieutenant – Each oversee many bonded air/ground teams. They command missions with precision and brutality.
Fireteam Leader – Veteran pilots and saboteurs. Names earned in fire and blood. Often lead kill squads or special ops.
Redeemed – Members of the Black Sands. Recently freed or newly risen in rank. They carry no shame—only purpose.
Roles
Air Assault Operations: The Black Sands are deployed in full-scale aerial assaults, aimed at neutralizing the enemy’s infrastructure, command centers, and key military positions. They strike hard and fast, using heavily armed ornithopters to deliver massive bombs, missiles, and machine gun fire to obliterate enemy targets.
Bombing Runs: The squadron excels in high-altitude and low-level bombing, focusing on the destruction of enemy bases, spice operations, and fortified positions. Their precision targeting ensures maximum destruction, while their speed keeps them out of reach of most enemy defenses.
Close Air Support: The Black Sands also provide close air support for House Atreides’ ground forces. Their rapid deployment allows them to deliver instant firepower during engagements, ensuring that enemy positions are cleared to allow advancing infantry or armored units to break through.
Counter-Insurgency and Base Disruption: In addition to direct assault missions, the Black Sands are often called in for counter-insurgency operations. Whether fighting off raiders or dismantling enemy strongholds, they employ high-explosive strikes to disrupt enemy logistics and control points.
Air Superiority Patrols: Black Sands ornithopters are deployed to maintain uninterrupted control of the skies over Atreides territory, intercepting enemy aircraft, smugglers, or Harkonnen recon flights before they breach defensive lines.
Deep Desert Reconnaissance: The squadron leads long-range expeditions beyond known territory—mapping sandworm paths, identifying potential spice veins, and searching for ancient structures or signs of hidden enemies.
Rapid Deployment Support: With high-speed deployment protocols, the Black Sands are capable of responding to any emerging threat within minutes—from rogue worm activity to sudden insurgent uprisings.
Recon: Specialized in stealth flight, terrain scanning, and data gathering. Often fly solo deep into uncharted zones with cloaked systems and long-range comms.

White Sands Squadron- Black Sands maintains a strategic allegiance with White Sands, forged through mutual respect and a shared commitment to balance power with precision across the shifting tides of conflict.
House Atreides- Though loyal to House Atreides, the Black Sands operate independently—a shadow legion gifted autonomy by Duke Leto himself. Their methods are brutal. Their efficiency is legendary. Their loyalty, unshakable.
