Interview with Joel:
- DA timeline & canonicity
- Spice use will change the player (unclear how this effects gameplay)
- Multiple sandworms will appear when enough players are on the open sands
- Sandworms are invincible
- Stillsuits will make water management easy outside of crafting
- You will be downed in combat as long as you have water
- You can self-revive or be revived by allies (if you have water)
- Some Brian Herbert content will be in DA
- NOTE: PvP preying is not something Funcom wants to encourage

Interview with Natascha Röösli:
- There will be player hubs, main quests, & NPCs
- DA will provide a huge open world environment
- You have to manage your water to avoid dying of thirst
- There is mining, base building, and crafting
- You can do contracts for NPCs in addition to the "main quest"
- Later in the game after acclimating to Arrakis players will be encouraged to form guilds and begin to interact with the political system of DA
- PvP is about fighting over resources and (political) objectives as opposed to base raiding or claiming land
- PvP is designed to be voluntary
- When you build your first base there is a force field that protects it from being destroyed as long as you power it
- "Kanly" is enforced as well so PvP won't really be an option in the starting zones
- Some zones are more PvE or PvP focused and you'll be alerted as you move from one to another
- The end game is all about rising throw the ranks of your faction empowering it on Arrakis
- Funcom is focused on "mak[ing] the game fit the lore not the lore fit the game"
- Any adjustments to the lore go through the Herbert estate or Legendary
- DA's lore is more in-line with the books while its art style heavily borrows from the Denis Villeneuve films
- There will be Muad'dibs in DA, and donkeys in stillsuits

|
- Sandworms, not being able to kill them or ride them. They move faster than any vehicle
- Co-operative gameplay, base building
- First Funcom game featuring suiting
- Game being based on Legendary art visuals but book story/world
- Wanting to get people new to Dune hooked
- "Survival opening with MMO ending"
- Character customisation - from Bald Harkonnen to flowing hair Atreides
- Mentors and trainers with skill trees
- Factions being a choice, people can join in with the War of Assasins or remain independent
- Day/Night cycle - at night ships hunt players and water can be harvested more easily
- Logging out in the environment, you are safe, other people can't steal your items
- Multiple maps, with different player caps
- Not decided on private servers, given their server structure
- Spice can mutate abilities, as players can "see a little into the future"
- In a pvp zone there is friendly fire
- Some areas are "soft gated" by environments, etc radiation
- Experienced players can give new people gear and "fasttrack" them past these soft gates
- Crafting is the heart of getting gear - you need schematics and machinery to craft
- 33% gear, 33% skill based, 33% stats roughly for pvp experience
- Not 1-1 gear drops, you will loot something of value
- Deep Desert has seamless transfer between servers
- This is not an MMORPG - It's a survival game, with MM levels of players
- DBNO - Down But Not Out, if you have enough water you can self-revive or be picked up by a friend
- Sandworm eats all your gear, PvP you lose gear durability, but only lose some resources
- Closed Betas since December, hopefully Open beta before launch.

Details on map, server structure, and how many players we'll see running around.
- Force gaming states of the details that was discussed in Dune Direct with Zoe and Joel.
- He briefly mentions on Funcom talked for the first thirty minutes of narrative stuff and how they replayed a story cinematic.
- He also briefly mentions of how they talked of the game's alternate history so no one gets to upset if events within the game conflict with events that happen in the lore.
- He talks of a closer look of character creation with the toggles and sliders.
- Mentions how a player will choose their home world first as well as your cast. Depending on those choices players gain access to unique emotes as well as dialog traits. Also which additional options when speaking to certain NPCs in game.
- Players will pick their mentor and this will be your starting class unlocking specific training.
- Swordsman, who is all about close quarters aggression. Starting ability is deflection that is a defensive stance that deflects ranged attacks.
- Bene Gesserit acolyte, who focuses on physical mastery and manipulation. Starting ability is the ability to compel forces towards you.
- Mentat is all about recon and strategy. Their ability Battlefield calculation is basically an area of scan highlighting enemies and objects.
- Trooper is all about the offense and demolition. Their ability Shigware cable is essentially a grapple hook.
- The class doesn't limit you on how to build a character. Awakening doesn't have a strict class system you can unlock any ability within the game. (***This has been updated*** See April 15th livestream for details)
- Players will discover mentors of other disciplines.
- Force gaming mentioning of an active test of beta of servers running 24/7 and there are a lot players.
- Testing of the game was from start to finish. Including survival crafting, leveling up, improving professions, and base building. Also choice on faction to fight for. Reaching end game, where testing out Deep Desert.
- He talks that Joel had received a lot feedback on bugs within DA and players can expect more combat on display in the coming months.
- Signups for beta were still open and available on the official Dune Awakening website.
- The final section of the Dune Direct Force Gaming mentions, Joel discussed how DA will have multiple maps where you can play with hundreds of people. A large world to explore and share with others.
- The overworld map functionally is like an interactive menu more or less.
- Goes into discussion of the overworld map allows you see other locations when you craft your first ornithopter.
- The reason DA is called a survival mmo as opposed to just a survival game is most survival games do one map and one server, but Funcom will have multiple connect servers running a single world that allows them to have a lot more players.
- Force gaming mentions of how a player starts out in the cave and ends up in the starting area of Hagga Basin which holds a minimum of forty players.
- Mentioned players can easily match up with friends or a guild within a particular world.
- Harko Village and Arrakeen are social hubs which have different themed look based on different factions.
- Within the social hubs are quests and faction npcs as well as vendors and trading hubs.
- Force gaming discusses into the deep desert of what Joel had talk of how many player it holds. When players enter the DD, they will be entering into the a pve strip so players don't get ganked upon entry. A storm comes in every week to wipe the deep desert to clean and reset with new landscape including new points of interests
- He mentions he is thoughts and views overall on the world of Dune Awakening and what he feels on the deep desert overall.
- Mentions the idea of the overworld map allows Funcom to be able to place new maps to include more content for players.
- Force gaming goes more into his personal thoughts overall on the overworld map and exploration. Also his personal thoughts on key differences with other MMOs and MMOs rpgs.
- He touches more into his personal thoughts of separate maps within DA and Hagga Basin.

Interview with the dev team Jeff G. a world director behind Dune: Awakening.
- Dune Awakening relates to the movies and books of Dune
- Players will be dropped onto Arrakis and will try to survive on the planet.
- Talked of the alternate timeline and how Paul Atreides doesn't exist.
- His mother Jessica followed the orders of the Bene Gesserit and gave birth to a girl.
- Doctor Yue got framed before the attack and failed.
- Atreides weren't nuked and have major houses fighting for the control of spice.
- Asked of why of the alternate timeline. Jeff stated in the books and films how important characters had died and this gave Funcom the chance for players to actually meet these characters like Duke Leto who is alive in Dune Awakening.
- This also allows Funcom to have both houses on Arrakis in the alternate timeline.
- Jeff was asked why make an mmo instead of a traditional RPG single player. He answered with all past knowledge at Funcom with Anarchy online and Age of Conan, also making survival of Conan Exile, they wanted to set the bar higher. It was like a merge of the games together with the knowledge of the style of the games they had created in the past.
- Asked what things Funcom learned from those games and should add something new into this one. Jeff answered with expanding the survival genre multiplayer side of things that was discussed in the past by Joel.
- There are more than one map within Dune Awakening. Funcom learned in the past is they are pretty good with creating one world in a single map, and why not have more than one to bring a bigger scale of multiplayer online.
- Gamertag Radio asked Jeff if anyone who hasn't watched, read, or even not familiar with Dune, could pick up and play. Jeff mentioned absolutely. People who don't know Dune they are going to start off with nothing and grow from there.
- Players will learn the story within Dune Awakening. Players are going to get involved with the story and for those that know Dune, will recognize locations and characters.
- Discussion of more into touch back in the interview of players meeting characters who are alive.
- People's reaction to the trailer that was shown that DA has nothing do with a movie or a book and they were very positive.
- During the date of this video, Jeff mentioned of there was several people in the official discord talking about the trailer.
- Asked how many potential players can be seen and is it something where you can join together or something solo. Also asked in lines of attacking each other. Jeff mention couldn't go much into detail on the numbers because the video of Dune Direct is coming on 20th of June 2024 which will have more details.
- Jeff mention you can meet a lot players and you can play with friends. Also there is pvp, a lot of pvp. If a player doesn't like pvp, and wants to stick to pve, it is perfectly fine. Players can play solo if they wish, but it is a multiplayer online.
- Jeff was asked what does he like in terms of teaming up or playing solo. He answers with he likes to play solo for a long time and once to gets to know the game, he will group up.
- Gamertag Radio asked Jeff on when Funcom did the presentation and went to a different location, to explain more information on that location. Jeff mentioned there is a lot different biomes players can explore and different maps.
- Joel will be talking more into locations. Funcom wanted to make sure, yes it is a desert with inspiration from real world desert and also Frank Herbert books.
- Funcom wanted to make the desert appealing to traverse and have a lot of different things to find in different locations.
- Jeff was asked what was the most exciting thing working on this project. He mentions to make the desert look appealing and the challenge to make it look appealing.
- Asked was there anything that had inspired Funcom from old film Dune in the 1980's or was it just more like the current film. Jeff mentioned Funcom is working with Legendary and the Herbert estate as well, so Funcom is influenced by Denis Villeneuve for the most part.
- Jeff continued stating they took some liberties to make some twists because in the movies everything is pretty low saturated.
- In the interview Gamertag Radio mentioned of hidden areas within the desert and caves where players can find items. They asked Jeff if the items are random or it is something where in the mission everyone can get. Jeff responded with yes there are random and they are specific place, but it is for the player to explore and make sure they can find a lot different things and places.
- Also noted it is never 100% always the same thing. So Funcom wants the players to come back to the same location and maybe find something else.
- Gamertag Radio asked Jeff to touch more into the character creation. Jeff mentions players can go into a lot of details when making a character. Like players have seen in a lot of games of sliders.
- It was asked if there will be a console version. Jeff mention he couldn't talk about it at the moment, but stay tuned for there will be more info. End of the interview

PAX Interview with Joel Bylos:
- Characters go through a brief ~10 minute tutorial after character creation for base game mechanics
- After tutorial, characters will crash in a sandstorm and spawn in one of ~40 potential starting points of Hagga Basin
- Characters will begin by learning about water, harvesting, and build a small starter base while soft-progression locked in the starter zone (southern Hagga Basin) by surrounding sandworm presence until they build a vehicle
- Materials for a character's first vehicle will be found in local dungeons, ruins, and shipwrecks to explore
- Access to areas soft-locked by vehicle requirements can be surpassed if other characters with vehicles provide transport
- Hagga Basin itself is the size of Conan Exiles' entire world map and is comprised of multiple regions and biomes, expecting to provide 50-60 hours of content before characters have progressed enough to move on
- To progress from Hagga Basin to the Deep Desert, characters will need to craft a flying vehicle, the ornithopter (or can be transported out early by other characters that already have one)
- Ornithopters will behave like a flying mount as they would in an MMORPG
- Shipwrecks/salvage sites act as the limited free-for-all PvP areas of Hagga Basin, which players will see fall from the sky
- When entering PvP-enabled areas, a pop-up will alert you that you are entering a "War of Assassins PvP Area"
- Explorable sites such as the giant rock Misrabar will have NPC outposts beneath them; factions will have different outposts in different areas
- Hagga Rift is a giant chasm in Hagga Basin that will demand forethought of lighting options to explore, as it gets darker as it gets deeper
- Hazardous radiation zones exist as a result of leaks from some crash sites and require special protective equipment to explore
- Faction camps/bases act as NPC dungeons, and will carry fuel needed to power your base, as well as other loot such as faction-specific resources, cosmetic unlocks and other progression unlocks
- Intel points are obtained by leveling up as well as by clearing enemy camps, and are spent in the tech tree to learn new crafting schematics
- Various biomes exist, including different types of ECO labs (botany labs, earth mining labs, etc.) with individual unique background lore
- Ideas for creating future content for new regions such as the planet's polar caps and tundras are already being considered
- Spice blow harvests in the Deep Desert are a PvE activity at heart, but are within a PvP zone and so conflict is a possible danger to consider
- Larger scale traditional PvE group content (bigger enemy bases, tactical objectives, etc.) is planned for post-launch development
- The Deep Desert is built to utilize a seamless server meshing process to create and artificial megaserver to avoid phasing
- The Deep Desert supports many players being present in one location at once, but has a technical limit that once being approached will trigger in-game events to drive players away such as sandstorms, all the way up to an in-lore police force deploying hard barriers around an area
- The Deep Desert is ~9x as large as Hagga Basin, sometimes taking 15 minutes to fly between rock island 'safe' zones
- Careful designs are being put in the Deep Desert to support players who don't want to engage PvP that will still make their time spent there valuable
- Weekly Coriolis Storms in the Deep Desert wipe and change the landscape to hide previously explorable areas and reveal new ones, some such sites housing schematics for unique items and leaving it unknown when they will be available to find again once the site disappears
- Gear is almost entirely focused around and devised from crafting schematics
- Crafting quality-of-life features such as crafting from storage, auto-sort, and 'deposit similar items into container' will all be present
- "Dungeons" will be instanced exploration locations with a lore focus akin to Bethesda RPG's rather than like a linear MMORPG dungeon
