Some elements described below may serve as placeholders for what we hope to achieve. These are subject to change as we discover more about the game’s mechanics, combat, and systems once we start playing. We’re a flexible guild, and we’ll adapt our strategies and events to ensure they align with the game’s reality while keeping the experience fun and casual for all members.
Purpose / Ethos
The Melange Talons is a casual PvX guild dedicated to serving House Atreides in Dune: Awakening’s alternate timeline. Named for the spice we harvest and the talons of the Atreides hawk, we stand as loyal allies to Duke Leto’s noble cause in the War of Assassins. Whether harvesting spice to fuel their efforts, crafting resources for the fight, or striking at the Harkonnens in the Deep Desert, we’re here to support House Atreides’ struggle for Arrakis. Our guild offers a laid-back, family-friendly space for players to enjoy the game’s survival, crafting, and combat at their own pace, contributing to our shared goals at least once a week.
Recruitment Process
The Melange Talons welcomes applicants through our Discord server, where we run a simple application process to ensure a good fit for our casual PvX guild. We’re looking for PC players aged 18+ who are fluent in English. Applicants can be from any timezone, but please note that the guild primarily operates in USA timezones, with most activities scheduled around evenings in regions like MST (e.g., Friday or Saturday nights). To apply, join our Discord server (linked above) and fill out the application form in the designated channel. A Hawk Vanguard or the Talon Lord will review your application, which includes a few questions about your playstyle and interest in Dune: Awakening.
If your application is approved, you’ll be assigned the Nestling rank and gain access to limited areas of the Discord server, such as general chat and announcement channels. We encourage new Nestlings to engage with the community by joining discussions, participating in voice chats, or taking part in pre-launch events to help us get to know you better. This engagement helps us ensure you mesh with our relaxed vibe before moving to full Sky Claw status in the in-game guild, especially given the 32-member cap in Dune: Awakening. We ask all members to contribute at least once a week, so be ready to jump into activities like spice runs or base building once the game launches in June 2025.
Ranks/Hierarchy
The Melange Talons’ hierarchy is designed to be straightforward, reflecting our casual yet organized approach in Dune: Awakening. Our ranks carry lore-inspired meaning, tying to our role as loyal allies of House Atreides, and will be reflected in the game’s guild structure, which caps guilds at 32 members to foster tight-knit communities:
- Talon Lord - The guild leader, guiding The Melange Talons with a steady hand to support House Atreides’ cause on Arrakis.
- Hawk Vanguard - A small, trusted group who lead our efforts in gathering spice and resources, ensuring we’re ready to aid Atreides in the War of Assassins.
- Sky Claw - The core members of The Melange Talons, actively contributing to our goals in-game, whether by harvesting spice, crafting, or fighting Harkonnens in the Deep Desert.
- Nestling - New members learning the ways of Arrakis, either waiting to join the in-game guild (if we’re at the 32-member cap) or proving they fit our casual, supportive vibe.
Leadership
The Melange Talons was founded by TwoSe7en (Talon Lord) and Wreck3r (Hawk Vanguard), two Generation X gamers who’ve been immersed in virtual worlds for decades. Together, they lead a small team of Hawk Vanguards to manage the guild, ensuring it remains a relaxed, family-friendly environment where members feel like friends, not coworkers. Both leaders have families of their own, so they understand that real-life priorities come first, whether it’s family commitments, work, or a well-deserved holiday.
Guild Lore
In Dune: Awakening’s alternate timeline, where Paul Atreides was never born and Duke Leto survives to fight the Harkonnens, The Melange Talons rise as loyal allies to House Atreides. Named for the spice we harvest and the talons of the Atreides hawk, we dedicate ourselves to supporting Duke Leto’s cause in the War of Assassins. On Arrakis, we gather spice to fuel their efforts, craft resources to strengthen their forces, and strike at Harkonnen foes in the Deep Desert’s spice blows. We navigate the desert with care, wary of sandworms that can devour us and our gear, while securing water through dew collectors to keep our guild thriving.
