- Tainting spice on three ships
Lieutenant Tighe Skorda found the tainted spice on Ix, and had no idea of its lethality. Two other ships (the Delphis the Europia) had similar cargo, but were shot down over the Sheol - Skorda only recovered Kytheria's cargo. The player recovers the cargo from the Delphis during the The Doomed Delphis (Atreides) journey. The crew and weapons on board the Europia were Ixian; its cargo is mentioned in the Euporia Fallen (Harkonnen) journey.
Onboard this Kytheria wreck, Skorda smuggled a mysterious cargo that infected the crew who came in contact with it. They all died a gruesome death, except for Captain Katrina Chloros, an Atreides Flag Officer and mentor to Anton Tolliver. The player finds a spice sample from the canister on the wreck. It looks and smells like any other spice melange on Arrakis. Lieutenant Alexander Sporag and Private Eckles perished among the crew, after being separate from Captain Chloros.
Anton Tolliver learned that Katrina deserted from her position. While smuggling suspicious cargo for another member of the Atreides military, Skorda, Katrina's ship and convoy were shot down in an ambush. After refusing to abandon her surviving crew without assistance from her superiors while they suffered from a terrible malady, Katrina deserted.

Callie worked the great galleries of the Hagga Rift, likely under CHOAM's employ in the Mineral extraction facilities, until the Kytheria crashed and the war escalated into the caverns. She joined the Deserters, carving tunnels through the old mining galleries using her trusty buggy and her favorite tool, until one of the tunnels she was opening collapsed beneath her.
