Testing Station 10 is a large Eco Lab found in Eastern Vermillius Gap, with standard eco lab loot. Originally this was a botanical testing station, with the purpose of finding and developing flora which can survive in the iron-rich soils in the local area. The testing station has long since been abandoned by botanists, and is now home to Deserter House Soldiers, who primarily use it to lay low and store vehicles and machinery. It is a good location to gather Complex Machinery.

Lore

The ancient testing station once housed botanists who experimented with various flora of the Imperium to find those which thrive in the Vermillius Gap. However in more recent times it became a hub for scavengers and vehicle thieves, in the employ of the mysterious Black Market organisation, The Tareel. However, they were since overthrown by Great House deserters, primarily Harkonnen lead by former Immenbrech Inna Hiller. The Tareel continued their agreement with/extorted the soliders to acquire and break down vehicles for their underground brokers.

Solido Projection

Upon entering the station, the solido projection of the old station leader plays the following message:

Welcome to Imperial Desert Botanical Testing Station #10.
I am Dr. Silas Gralish, director of this facility.
Our goal here at DBTS 10 is to find and develop flora which can flourish in the iron rich soils of this corner of Arrakis.
Our initial focus is the introduction of Welwithschia, Ephedra, and Aloidendron species which we deem the most likely adapters.
But within these protective walls we will also cultivate a variety of species from across the Imperium.
The ultimate goal will be to seed the planet with species capable of thriving in the wild.
Without the benefit of the water provided by our windtrap condensation system...

Recordings

Deserters have left several recordings around the facility, primarily former Harkonnen soldiers

Tape 1

The first tape location

The first tape is found in one of the side rooms on a table. It is a recording from one of the Deserter leaders, Inna Hiller.

Attention all of you! Yesterday, in Harko Village, Krystalf referred to me as Immenbrech Hiller.
How hard can it be to remember this simple rule: NO MILITARY TITLES!
We take a risk every time we need to enter settlement.
A slipup like this could easily be the death of us all!
Make sure every one of you hears this message and understands it!
Krystalf will not be returning to us. There will be an auction for his gear.

Tape 2

The second tape location

The second tape is deeper into the station, on a table.

Mikael, It's clear we need more people with mechanical expertise if we are to meet the quotas set by our new bosses.
We have too many here who can't handle anything more complicated than a trigger.
They can be our field men, and our muscle.
But we need skilled hands. So, you and I will need to do some recruiting.
There are plenty like us who have...chosen to leave the service of the Great Houses.
We must find those among them with vehicle maintainance experience.
That includes former Atreides troopers.
Yes, I know... bad blood! But we have more in common with Atreides deserters than we do with our old comrades.
Anyone who can't see past old grudges won't have a place here.

Tape 3

The third tape is above a stairway on the main route through the testing station. It's a recording of the Hand of Tareel "The new bosses"

Hiller, here are this week's notes from our market contacts:
Working anti-dust filtration systems are in high demand in Arrakeen.
Those from one-man groundcars are valuable, but larger units from sealed system groundcars and ornithopters will fetch the best prices.
Stick to CHOAM standard models since custom fabricated units are becoming too easy to trace - the dealers won't touch them.
Make sure our acquisition agents are aware of this.
The market for scrap metal is nearly glutted because of competition from scavengers in the Hagga Basin, but there is still a strong market for copper. aluminum, and plasteel components.
It will be worth our effort to break down larger mechanisms to acquire those materials. Do not forget to pass on last week's tallies as soon as you have completed them.

Tape 4

The fourth tape is in the large machinery room, in the lower area where vehicles are being deconstructed. It is a recording of one of the deserters supervising the machinery and workers.

We're finally getting some sort of order out on the shop floor. The men are generally meatheads, but they're learning.
We've really been hampered by the crappy state of our tools though.
Those scavengers that we...evicted, may have been content to use this junk. but we'd do a lot better if we could upgrade our cutters and powerpacks.
These museum pieces are constantly malfunctioning and their cooldown times are obscene.
The men are idle too often. And that's not good for this bunch.

Tape 5

The fifth tape location

The fifth tape is on a table in a side room before the main final chamber

Attention all of you!
I know you are all impressed with the daring of our friend Sidar who was bold enough to steal a battle tank from under the very noses of Atreides troopers
Stealing aging groundcars and tractors from the Pyons of graben, sink, and pan is one thing, but this..
This takes nerve bordering on the legendary!
I am duly impressed
So impressed, that I will overlook the equally high degree of stupidity Sidar has shown with this act!
It is not in our interest to risk the wrath of powers that have set a price on our heads!
No one listens to the complaints of the Pyons. These are our targets, not the Great Houses.
We deal in civilian vehicles only. Anything else endangers us all!

Tape 6

The sixth and final tape is in the final boss room, by the exit door. It is another recording from The Hand of Tareel.

To our new friend Inna Hiller, late Immenbrech Hiller of the Harkonnen House Forces, the Tareel sends greetings
You may be surprised that we know your identity, but the Hands of Tareel, whom I represent, know many things.
For instance, we know that you and your band of deserters recently ousted a gang of vehicle thieves from one of the ancient testing stations in the Vermilius Gap.
Congratulations. I am certain that the station will make a fine hiding place for former soldiers such as yourselves.
But there is a small problem. You see, those thieves were in our employ. They acquired vehicles and broke them down before passing the components on to our brokers.
Ordinarily, such a loss would earn you the enmity of my organization. Something, I can assure you, you do not want.
But, to be perfectly candid, our former agents were less efficient in their tasks than we had hoped. Therefore, I would like to propose a deal which I am certain both sides will find beneficial.
You and your followers will take over the task of acquiring vehicles and breaking them down for us.
If you meet agreed upon quotas you are welcome to occupy our valuable property.
I'm certain you can see the benefits of becoming our agents.
If not. I'm also certain that your former employers would be happy to learn of your current whereabouts. I look forward to your timely reply.
