Holtzman effect
Tio Holtzman was an iconic scientist of prior and during the Butlerian Jihad, which credited for the Holtzman Effect, which gave rise to many technologies like:
Shields
Shields, which allow a character to deflect projectiles but don't it immune from slow blade, Hunter-seeker attacks, or drillshot rifle fire, which fires drilling darts.
A shield's kinetic barrier can only pierced by slow moving objects[1]. Also, ranged attacks cannot be fired from inside an active shield, which causes a hostile and your character to turn-off their shield while firing[2].
A personal shield requires a Power pack, which utilizes a fuel cell, to work.
Suspensors
Suspensors, which allow a player to float above ground to dampen a fall or to ease short distance aerial traversal without needed an ornithopter. A suspensor requires a Power pack, which utilizes a fuel cell, to work.
Glowglobes
Glowglobes, which can be found around Arrakis and can be purchased from as Lights Set from a vendor at a tradepost. Glowglobes do not require a power pack to work.
Space travel
Space travel, which is used Spacing Guild to fold space and time.
Houses and factions
House Imota seems to have a deep understanding of Holtzman technology, and are specialized enough to have agreements with both CHOAM and the Spacing Guild for the manufacture of such.
Other shields
It is unclear if power generators, such as the fuel powered generator, which requires fuel cells to shield and protect a sub-fief's building durability during sandstorms, utilize technology derived from the Holtzman effect. Similarly, the technology behind Pentashields is not listed.
While a shield protects a building during sandstorms, your character's worn shield won't protect it from sandstorm.
Note: Vehicles cannot be equipped with a shield. They must stored in a sheltered, enclosed, or water-sealed space to be protected from storms.
