Ringmouth Sandworm

In-game

In the deep desert, players will be released into the full extent of the game, open PvP will be enabled, even allowing players to shoot their teammates.[1]

Also in the deep desert, the shifting sands mechanic is present[2]: every week a massive Coriolis storm will sweep through the area, demolishing anything in its path[3]

The Deep Desert's raw map size is over 355miles squared or around 576km2[4]. During the Dune: Awakening Direct Episode 2, Joel Bylos stated that the Deep Desert is over 500km2.

Benefits/Rewards

Of course, the player will be well rewarded in response to all the risks the Deep Desert gives the player:

  • Very valuable items
  • Spice Blows [5] and harvesting opportunities for the "most valuable" resource
  • Special schematics for the player to unlock [6] such as exclusive guns and such

Risks

Due to the nature of it, the Deep Desert is a very dangerous place. Some dangers the players will fill are:

  • Ringmouth sandworms, capable of consuming vehicles whole[7][8]
  • PvP, including Friendly fire[1]
  • Suspected unsuitability of shields due to worms and vast landscape of open sand[9]
  • Sandstorms
  • Intense sunlight leading to dehydration[10]

However, to protect players, the Deep Desert will feature a strip of combat-free land to protect players.[11]

Technical Server Limits

As a server in the Deep Desert grows to its soft cap, natural things such as sandstorms will start to drive people away. However, if players still insist on going through the sandstorms a hard barrier will be put up by the police force on Dune,[12] likely the Sardaukar.
