In Dune: Awakening the Sardaukar will follow a similar role as in the universe, being the Emperor's army.
Though not much is known of them, the Sardaukar will be the ones enforcing the taxes needed to keep your base up[1] as well as patrolling the villages in game.[2]
In-universe
In the universe of Dune the Sardaukar were the Emperor's elite fighting force, ready to be deployed to conflicts as the Emperor saw fit.
Trained on the extremely harsh planet of Salusa Secundus, the Sardaukar army was a fighting force of near unmatched power.
