Dune Awakening will feature a building mechanic, with players being able to build their own bases for shelter, crafting and refining resources. [1]

Basics

Building will be a big part of Dune: Awakening for both small and big groups, as it allows you to craft things otherwise inaccessible. [2]

To get started with your base, you must use a Solido Construction Projector[3] and place a "sub-fief console" which allows you to claim a small piece of the planet which you will then need to pay taxes on to the Emperor[4] or face the Sardaukar.[5]
Your base will be a place to socialize and rest while not in the deep desert, useful to stockpile your gear and craft new one. It allows for storage and collecting water in dew collectors. [6]
Bases can be built (probably) almost anywhere, but pre-set landmarks are a no-build zone, and bases outside Shield Wall will be procedurally wiped with the coming of Coriolis storm every week. [7] [8] Bases can be built without having to take the resources out of their storage chests, the CHOAM control crafting, adding another layer to the Exchange. [9]

Building can also be done in a group with the co-op building system: a player can place down a hologram of a base part which can then be filled by other players.[10]

Once their base is built, the player will be able to create a blueprint of their base sell it on the Exchange or simply give the blueprint to other players,[11] allowing a unique opportunity to all players of all walks of life.

Base Size and Location

Bases will be an important part of your life on Arrakis. As they grow both in size and majesty, they will become more visible, harder to maintain, but also more majestic and packed with utilities. A big part of base maintenance will be the need to pay Imperial taxes, which will become gradually more expensive as your base grows in size. [12] Bases will also need to be shielded to prevent Coriolis damage and help against raids. (Note: Raids are not the primary focus of this game)[13] [2] It currently seems that shields might disable raids completely. [14]
There doesn't seem to be a limit for base size at the moment. [12] [1][6]

Base Protection

The player's main source of protection for their base(s) will be the shield. The sub-fief console used to generate your base also contains a shield. If a shield is generated, "then players can't interact with you". However, if your shield looses energy or it is turned off by the player, the base will be vulnerable to damage from other players but also world events such as storms.[15]

However, there are also might be turrets the player can use to protect their land, as seen in the "Atreides base" below.

Building types

There seems to be a typical building style similar to games like ARK, with Foundations, Walls, Crafting stations and similar. Decorations are also implemented. [1] Bases will need electricity to run, Solar panels and Wind Turbines seem to be the main source of electricity. Dew collectors for acquiring water passively will be a vital part of industrial crafting also. [1][16]

Decor

Buildings can be decorated with different styles. [1] There are several decorative objects that can be placed in, on and around buildings, including Banners[17], Vases (so many vases)[18], Plants, Tables, Benches, Glowglobes etc.
