The Scout Ornithopter is a single-seated aerial vehicle, known for their unmatched speed and agility.
Scout Ornithopters can be stored in the Vehicle Backup Tool, and as an aerial vehicle, can be used to travel to the Overland Map.
They can first be crafted using Aluminum and later Duraluminum or Plastanium with better armor and/or performance. Modules can be attached to augment it for cargo, speed and even combat.
Their big limitation is a single seat. There are no passenger spots. Brave players can overcome this by standing on top of the Ornithopter in-flight.
They can be fitted with a scanner for environmental scanning, and optional upgrades for storage or boosters (see Scout Ornithopter#Booster).
As with the other flying vehicles — and similar to how Sandbike and Buggy treads work — all four wings must be of the same tier. Other components, however, can be mixed across different tiers.
Assembly of any vehicle always begins with the chassis. Unless otherwise specified, only one of each module type is required.
Modules from different tiers can generally be mixed to construct a functioning vehicle; however, multi-part components, such as treads or wings, must have all parts of the same tier.
The Scout Ornithopter has several optional modules that can give it scanning, storage, boosting, or even combat capabilities.
Apart from the Scout Ornithopter Scan Module, all other optional modules share the side utility slot on the Scout Ornithopter, thus only one can be equipped at a time.
In Frank Herbert's Dune universe, ornithopters are inspired by the flapping-wing flight of both birds and insects, with a particular resemblance to dragonflies in their design and maneuverability.
