A mysterious disease has begun spreading across Hagga Basin, leaving madness and death in its wake. Venture into the desert, confront the infected, and uncover the truth behind the strange affliction.

Where did it come from? And what is it doing to those unfortunate enough to become infected?

This World Event began on 23 October 2026 and ends on 9 November 2026.

Details

Players were tasked to complete Contracts across the Hagga Basin, collecting Blood and other items for Dr. Nailea Shaffat's efforts to combat a mysterious plague spreading across Arrakis. Completing quests and collecting Blood rewarded players with Blood Marks, which were exchangeable for character-bound event-exclusive cosmetics and base decorations. The event storyline evolved over the course of the week as the plague progressed.

To access the event, players had to speak with Dr. Shaffat and Frida Maltros in Shaffat's Clinic in Arrakeen. Frida Maltros could also be found in the Hagga Basin, spawning at all Tradeposts in Hagga Basin, such as The Anvil and the Crossroads Tradepost. Beside her, an interactable Blood Refinery would be present to deposit Blood in exchange for Blood Marks, which were used to purchase reward items via Frida Maltros, who subsequently allowed players to access her vendor stock.

Blood Marks

Blood Marks could be obtained by completing event Contracts, as well as depositing Blood in the Blood Refinery beside Frida Maltros.

Dialogue

Dr. Nailea Shaffat addressing Arrakeen via the public address system:

People of Arrakeen - this is Doctor Shaffat of the Suk Inner School, speaking at the request of your Duke. If you or someone close to you develops a high fever, dizziness, excessive perspiration, yellowing of the eyes, or unusual behavior, seek medical assistance at my clinic. There is no benefit in waiting. Let us examine the illness before it becomes more difficult to treat.

Talking to Frida Maltros about the plague

Player: What kind of disease are we dealing with here? Frida Maltros: It's... bad. Not like anything I've ever seen. Not like anything even Doctor Shaffat has seen. She can give you the detailed list of symptoms. Frida Maltros: Terrible fevers, tremors, and yellowed eyes, of course, but this infection may affect one's personality in ways we don't yet understand. Frida Maltros: We're also seeing excessive aggressiveness. And this is just the beginning. We have not yet seen the contagion's full cycle.

Talking to Frida Maltros about Dr. Shaffat

Player: Tell me about Doctor Shaffat. Frida Maltros: She is marvelous! A wonder! My new mentor. She gave me a chance when no one else would. Frida Maltros: Did you know that a noble was indebted to her, and rather than ask for something for herself, she requested the resources to start this clinic? Frida Maltros: She came to this dangerous, terrible planet to help people suffering under the War of Assassins. If that was all I knew about her, that would be enough.

Talking to Dr. Shaffat

+ Generic Dr. Shaffat backstory interaction +

Dr. Shaffat: You've returned. Player: I'd like to ask you some questions. Dr. Shaffat: I will provide answers if I can.

+ Generic interaction ends +

Player: I want to talk more about this epidemic. Dr. Shaffat: Very well. I can spare a moment. Player: [1] What are the effects of the outbreak on Arrakeen thus far? [2] That's all the questions I have at this time. -Ends dialogue chain Dr. Shaffat: The authorities have introduced quarantines to mixed success. The population struggles against such strictures. Dr. Shaffat: The prime frustration of my vocation, I think, is knowing the reasonable solution to a problem, and watching people fight each step tooth and nail. Player: [1] When people are plural, they are not at their most rational. [2] {Atreides} I would have hoped House Atreides would make a better show of things. Dr. Shaffat: They are only human, doing what humans do. Cause and effect. Harko Village isn't faring any better and with greater cruelty hurled at the problem. -Returns to earlier branch

Talking to Phrakk

+ Generic Phrakk backstory interaction +

Fleshshaper Phrakk: You again. What is it now? Player: I'd like to ask you about something now. Fleshshaper Phrakk: I'm sure you would. What now?

+ Generic interaction ends +

Player: What can you tell me about the outbreak? Fleshshaper Phrakk: More than you will enjoy knowing, and less than I will enjoy understanding. What aspect of our collective deterioration interests you? Player: 1. How bad has it become in Harko Village? 2. That's enough for now. Fleshshaper Phrakk: [1] The cages are full. Maula and pyons are surrendered for destruction, bondsmen assembled for deportation, and Na-familia sealed inside their homes. [2] At last, an accurate assessment of your intellectual capacity. -Ends dialogue chain Player: 1. Why are they being treated differently? Fleshshaper Phrakk: Because House Harkonnen finds the idea of a disease that ignores caste hierarchy to be more distasteful than the deaths it causes. -Returns to earlier branch

Tips

  • When the event launched, certain Sietches in each World did not render event props such as Contract locations and Frida Maltros' medical tent at Tradeposts in the Hagga Basin properly. Switching Sietches within the World to find one that worked was the recommended interim solution.
