The Order of Mentats is also known as the great Mentat School.

With the destruction and outlawing of thinking machines following the Butlerian Jihad, the need for someone or something to replace their raw processing and thinking ability was desired. With this, the Mentat School was founded on the basis that through mental conditioning, a human could have the same thinking and processing capabilities of a machine that came before them in that role. Not just anyone can be a Mentat, you must have the innate ability or potential already there to even be allowed into the school.

Sought for employment in various opportunities and faculties, Mentats can soar in every field possibly except for those that would be deemed unethical. Every great house has access to a Mentat, even the Bene Gesserit have them in their ranks. They can be so precise with calculations that they can almost to a degree have foresight. They are employed as advisors, scientists and in other areas of expertise as they are needed.

The Bene Tleilax would pursue twisting and making perverse versions of Mentats that would explore and process information that would be deemed unethical and to come up with new ways to benefit their agendas.

In-Game

Samin Moro is the basic Mentat trainer you run into in the Hagga Basin at Riftwatch.

Zayn (Twisted Mentat), who can be found at the Salusan Bull in Arrakeen is the second Mentat you run into that leads you into advanced Mentat training.

Thufir Hawat is another Mentat you find in Arrakeen, he is the great advisor for Duke Leto and leads his forces on Arrakis and deals with the Atreides Contract Missions.
