Sandflies
The Sandflies are a hostile group of NPCs that can be found scattered across the Shield Wall in Hagga Basin, occupying Camps, Caves, Outposts and Testing Stations alike.
Lore
The Sandflies are rogue Dune Men who have broken off from the Spice Miner's Guild, opposing the Imperium's monarchy and aristocracy. The group's slogan is "In the name of our people".
Sandflies celebrate March 8th 10,136 AG, the Night of the Mudwalk, when they marched and stumbled through sand mucked thick with the blood of the Harkonnen and the workers, during an unsuccessful revolt. Sandflies claim that the Harkonnen, Atreides, and Imperium erased this revolt, this event, from their official records.
House Hurata is studying the group's raw folk music traditions, or at least absorb some of the environment that helped shape its songs.
Reputation
Sandflies are known for the outcome of their actions rather that what their speeches promise: destroyed property, dead civilians, theft, and plunder.
Stashes
The Sandflies often keep stashes of Light and Heavy Caliber Compressors in their outposts, as they can be turned to various useful purposes. Also, there are few uses for industrial-strength pumps on a planet as dry as Arrakis, but the Sandflies do utilize these pumps in their operations in Sentinel City. Sentinels, similarly to the Player, likely collect them from Crashed Ships and occasionally in Deep Desert from Imperial Testing Stations or Shipwrecks.
Notable members
Notable members include:
- Red Scorpion
- Denira Quirth ran a supply depot for the Sandflies for many years, ensuring the flow of spice and other goods to the smugglers, in return for the basic supplies they needed to survive. Esmar Tuek, from the Smugglers, gifted a dirk, which carries Denira's name.
- Marwen, operating out of Testing Station 71
Fireflies
There is a splinter branch of the Sandflies called the Fireflies, including:
