Levenbrech Maxim Kazmir is the Harkonnen recruiter in Hagga Basin South. He recruits players towards his own faction while throwing insults and barbs at his nearby Atreides rival, Anton Tolliver
Lore
Levenbrech Maxim Kazmir is House Harkonnen’s intelligence officer and primary recruiter stationed at The Anvil Tradepost in the Eastern Vermillius Gap. In the ongoing War of Assassins, he serves as the direct counterpart to the Atreides lieutenant Anton Tolliver, and the two maintain a bitter, barely restrained rivalry under the laws of Kanly. Kazmir presents himself as a shrewd judge of talent who sifts "diamonds in the rough" from the scum of Arrakis. He is arrogant, openly contemptuous of Atreides idealism, and frames House Harkonnen’s philosophy in direct terms: the strong prevail and free the weak from the burden of agency. Players who approach him are quickly tested with contracts designed to prove ruthlessness and usefulness.
Kazmir is a heavy Semuta addict whose excesses led to his reassignment to this remote tradepost which he insists is a temporary to "hone his craft." His addiction however is an open secret among Harkonnen ranks and becomes a key lever for players who choose the Atreides path, allowing them to blackmail him and force his withdrawal from certain investigations.
In the game’s early faction recruitment, Kazmir functions as the accessible face of Harkonnen intrigue: useful, dangerous, and ultimately expendable. Players who serve him well may rise; those who outmaneuver him discover that even a Levenbrech can be quickly discarded when his value runs out.
Location
Maxim Kazmir is located at The Anvil.
Dialogue
Levenbrech Maxim Kazmir: Well ... you look more capable than the average scum. This War of Assassins has a way of making people into victims or victors. Which are you, I wonder ...
Player: 1. That was quite a scene between you and that Atreides soldier.. 2. And you are? 3. Goodbye.
Levenbrech Maxim Kazmir: Dear Anton over there? The poor sod was meant for the battlefield, not intrigue. He drank his own propaganda, and it's turning to poison in his guts.
The business of espionage is often cold, but thanks to the laws of kanly, Anton and I have kept intimate enough closeness as to make it personal.
Player: 1. You seem to take a rare delight in your business. 2. Goodbye.
Levenbrech Maxim Kazmir: I freely admit I mix my business and pleasure. One should not do these things judiciously. Relish your success and you shall imbibe more success.
Player: 1. What exactly is your business? 2. Goodbye.
Levenbrech Maxim Kazmir: Pardon me. Living in the heat and lingering Fremen stink erodes civility. I am Levenbrech Maxim Kazmir, intelligence officer of great House Harkonnen.
Player: 1. (Complete contract) It says here that you're looking for recruits. 2. What if I wanted to join your House? 3. Can you tell me more about your House? 4. Goodbye.
Levenbrech Maxim Kazmir: It seems you can both read and follow directions. We should get along famously.
Player: 1. What if I wanted to join your House? 2. Can you tell me more about your House? 3. Goodbye.
Levenbrech Maxim Kazmir: Brazen and eager. I can work with that. I'd say it's about building trust, but this is a game of intrigue. So we'll deal in usefulness instead.
You see, my job is to sift through the dregs of this dung hole, separating rare talent from so much meat we throw into the grinder.
Player: 1. How do I prove my usefulness? 2. Goodbye.
Levenbrech Maxim Kazmir: My last promising asset up and vanished while on the trail of an Atreides agent. Are they dead? Are they deep into their cups? It is unimportant.
The Atreides agent is the thing! Bring me all the information you can gather, and we may just allow you under the umbrella of our success.
Player: 1. (Accept contract) I'll see what I can do. 2. Goodbye.
Levenbrech Maxim Kazmir: Speak with Anton. Act agreeable. He will ask you for assistance. Accept his mission, but bring your findings to me instead.
Player: 1. Goodbye.
Levenbrech Maxim Kazmir: Nice to see you again. Never a dull moment when you're about, eh?
Player: 1. The Atreides agent is dead, but I have his encrypted report. 2. Tell me again what you'd have me do. 3. Can you tell me more about your House? 4. Tell me about yourself. 5. Goodbye.
Levenbrech Maxim Kazmir: Oh yes, yes. Success is definitely my favorite drug. Now give it to me, give it to me, give it to me!
Player: 1. (Complete contract) Here it is. 2. Your eagerness betrays you. I need to think carefully about what to do.
Levenbrech Maxim Kazmir: Yes, yes. My hands and mind are rapacious for ill-gotten intel.
You are indeed resourceful, unlike the louts I have to deal with in this wretched place. Perhaps you can help me ... perhaps we can help each other.
Player: 1. So what's so important about one dead agent? 2. I did what you asked. Am I in the organization now? (Proceed.) 3. [SPECIAL] So what can you tell me about this Skorda individual? 4. Goodbye.
Levenbrech Maxim Kazmir: Your presumption is sweet, but misplaced. I collect deniable assets. I run them through the meat grinder of espionage. Most end up a fine paste.
But I suspect you'll choke the machine. Are you disposable? Certainly! But being deniable comes with certain freedoms. I trust you'll exploit them.
Player: 1. And what do you get out of my success? 2. [BONDSMEN] I live and die by my own skills. I aim to have something more. 3. Goodbye.
Levenbrech Maxim Kazmir: A fair question. Your success becomes my success, and vice versa. Help me get out of this dung heap, and I'll bring you with me.
I must get out of this place. I must again deal in skilled agents rather than asset scum. You can help me rise, and I, in turn, can help you.
Player: 1. Will joining you paint a target on my back among other Houses? 2. Goodbye.
Levenbrech Maxim Kazmir: That's the beauty of being an undercover and deniable asset. Your movements are unrestricted. You're as likely to get shot or stabbed as anyone else.
Player: 1. I'm in. How do we proceed? 2. Goodbye.
Levenbrech Maxim Kazmir: I always have tasks that need doing. Do them, and I will pay you, and we will bide our time to seize further opportunities.
Player: 1. (Accept contract) What have you got for me? 2. I'll need to think about this. 3. Goodbye.
Levenbrech Maxim Kazmir: Our target resides near the Atreides Fortress. I need something incriminating planted, a false log. The contract has the particulars.
Player: 1. Whom am I framing? And what for? 2. Goodbye.
Levenbrech Maxim Kazmir: Do not distract from your task with questions. For now, focus on the action itself. We can talk at leisure when it is all done.
Player: 1. Goodbye.
Levenbrech Maxim Kazmir: Still alive? Well done. It's a good look on you.
Player: 1. (Complete contract) I have planted the communications log. 2. Goodbye.
Levenbrech Maxim Kazmir: Huzzah to you, then, on your triumphant return.
I know, such a menial job. But every completed task raises your esteem by incremental degrees. You'll build a mountain out of sand grains in no time!
Player: 1. May I ask who it is I was framing? 2. Do you have anything else for me? 3. Goodbye.
Levenbrech Maxim Kazmir: For now, you are in the business of doing. Knowing is reserved for higher ranks. With enough doing, you'll get there in no time.
In the meantime, there is much work to be done.
Player: 1. Do you have anything else for me? 2. Goodbye.
Levenbrech Maxim Kazmir: I do. Some greedy slavers are accepting bribes from slaves in exchange for freedom. I need a brutal hand to give said slavers a teachable moment.
There's something I like about you - a chemical sheen to your skin reminds me of home. I'll dispense with menial tasks and give you something juicy.
Player:
1. I like the sound of that. Let's skip the menial tasks.
2. Goodbye.
Levenbrech Maxim Kazmir: Very well.
Player: 1. So what's next? 2. Goodbye.
Levenbrech Maxim Kazmir: Let's test your cunning. There is a disgraced Atreides soldier ripe for exploiting. Details in the contract.
Player: 1. (Accept contract) I'll do it. 2. Maybe later.
Levenbrech Maxim Kazmir: This is a chance for me to see what kind of information you can extract - what kind of sway you can have over a mark - with only your words.
Player: 1. Goodbye.
Levenbrech Maxim Kazmir: Still alive? Well done. It's a good look on you.
Player: 1. (Complete contract) Gloos Bohannon had a lot to say ... with the right persuasion. 2. Goodbye.
Levenbrech Maxim Kazmir: Oh this delights me greatly. Someone who is adept at both combat and persuasion is ready for greater things.
Player: 1. I'm ready to take my place in your organization to the next level. 2. Goodbye.
Levenbrech Maxim Kazmir: Yes, I see opportunity in you. However, others in my House think you're too chummy with Anton Tolliver. Understand, I trust you, but they do not.
Player: 1. What can I do to prove my loyalty? 2. I associate with whomever I like. 3. Goodbye.
Levenbrech Maxim Kazmir: I desire for our fortunes to rise together. There is a solution to our dilemma. You must blackmail poor, simple Anton. Easy pickings.
Player: 1. Commit to the partnership. 2. I need to think about it ... 3. Goodbye.
Levenbrech Maxim Kazmir: Excellent. Now, let's make Anton squirm.
Player: 1. How should I go about that? 2. Goodbye.
Levenbrech Maxim Kazmir: Anton's honor is an exposed nerve. Help me forge a document proving his cowardice. I spared no expense getting hold of an official Atreides seal.
I also had a local pickpocket filch his military ID. I hired the best forger around. The document is impeccable! However, my grand plans hit a snag.
Player: 1. A snag? 2. Goodbye.
Levenbrech Maxim Kazmir: The Kirab hired to deliver the document bumped up the price. Vermin! Get the document. Show them the folly of renegotiation.
Player: 1. (Accept contract) I'll do it. 2. I'll think about it.
Levenbrech Maxim Kazmir: Here is the contract. Bring me back some fabricated evidence. The juicier the better. I could use an entertaining read.
Player: 1. Goodbye.
Levenbrech Maxim Kazmir: You look ready for bigger and better things.
Player: 1. (Complete contract) It's done. I have the forged document to compromise Anton. 2. Goodbye.
Levenbrech Maxim Kazmir: Oh yes-yes-yes! Such a flawless document. Such a pretty lie. That sanctimonious sod is going to suffer, and it makes me all but quiver in pleasure.
Player: 1. Will that be all then? 2. Goodbye.
Levenbrech Maxim Kazmir: Oh no. Just one more delicious touch. You must blackmail Anton personally. I want to see the light die in his eyes. Make him back off the Skorda case.
Player: 1. Goodbye.
Levenbrech Maxim Kazmir: You look ready for bigger and better things.
Player: 1. (Complete contract) It's done. Anton will back off the search for Skorda. 2. Goodbye.
Levenbrech Maxim Kazmir: I saw. Masterfully done! Hand me those documents. Just in case you have a change of heart.
Player: 1. (Complete contract) It's done. Anton will back off the search for Skorda. 2. Goodbye.
Levenbrech Maxim Kazmir: To see that knightly fool humbled. It's all I imagined and more! You, my sweet agent, have earned a place at the table.
Player: 1. I pledge myself to your machinations. 2. Goodbye.
Levenbrech Maxim Kazmir: We will do great and terrible things, you and I. However, be advised that any betrayal, after this point, will have most dire consequences.
There are, of course, perks. I pulled a few strings to grant you access to exclusive Harkonnen vendors. You can thank me later. Or now. Now is good.
Player: 1. Do you have anything new for me? 2. I understand you're well versed in the use of Semuta. 3. Goodbye.
Levenbrech Maxim Kazmir: Opportunity ripens, and the fruits of your labor have paid off. Do you recall the falsified communications log I had you plant earlier?
The man you framed was a simple merchant, one with ties to the Atreides. Now, he's been wrongly accused of being a double agent, and hence killed.
Player: 1. IBONDSMEN] Funny how it's the workers who must suffer as collateral for the powerful. 2. Who killed the merchant? 3. Goodbye.
Levenbrech Maxim Kazmir: That's the beauty of it! The vilified sod was killed by regretful Atreides deserters, desperate to get into Duke Leto's good graces once again.
And now for the crown jewel of this masterpiece ... You will find the deserters, and finish them off ensuring more Atreides infighting.
Player: 1. (Accept contract) Consider them dead. 2. I'll have to get back to you on that. 3. Goodbye.
Levenbrech Maxim Kazmir: I assume nothing until the task is done. Make it so.
Player: 1. Goodbye.
Levenbrech Maxim Kazmir: Ah, it's you. Let's get to work.
Player: 1. (Complete contract) The deserters ambushed me! 2. I understand you're well versed in the use of Semuta. 3. Goodbye.
Levenbrech Maxim Kazmir: Is that so? I suppose there is risk in relying on unscrupulous intelligence.
Player: 1. In a War of Assassins, I may be expendable, but I survived. 2. You knowingly sent me on a risky mission?. 3. Goodbye.
Levenbrech Maxim Kazmir: All the worthwhile missions are dangerous, but I think you know that.
Player: 1. I did manage to end them all ... but it was a nearer thing than I like. 2. Goodbye.
Levenbrech Maxim Kazmir: See? Nothing to worry about. The Atreides infighting will soon begin, a fine show to watch, and I will be one step closer to my glorious return.
Player: 1. Any new contracts? 2. I understand you're well versed in the use of Semuta. 3. Goodbye.
Levenbrech Maxim Kazmir: So eager ... I love it! The Atreides are employing some rather advanced weapons. We'd like a closer look at the tech.
Player: 1. (Accept contract) I'll look into it. 2. On second thought, I'll pass for now.
Levenbrech Maxim Kazmir: Good. I am compiling an impressive list of your successes. Hardly any embellishment on my part! We are building a great case for your advancement.
Player: 1. Goodbye.
Levenbrech Maxim Kazmir: Ah, it's you. Let's get to work.
Player: 1. (Complete contract) I have those experimental missile components. 2. I understand you're well versed in the use of Semuta. 3. Goodbye.
Levenbrech Maxim Kazmir: Oh yes. Let me feast my eyes upon them at once!
Oh excellent. Yes, yes, yes. My superiors will be quite pleased with me for- That is ... pleased with us.
Player: 1. Just a slip of the tongue, right? 2. Goodbye.
Levenbrech Maxim Kazmir: Of course, of course. The desert sand mummifies my vocal organ and I misspeak. I cherish your contribution. The rewards will come.
Player: 1. I'm hungry for more contracts. 2. I understand you're well versed in the use of Semuta. 3. Goodbye.
Levenbrech Maxim Kazmir: Then allow me to glut you on opportunity and carnage. Military deserters have become an epidemic on Arrakis. We must dissuade with violence.
Player: 1. (Accept contract) That sounds like just the job for me. 2. Sorry. Not interested.
Levenbrech Maxim Kazmir: I thought so. You have a remarkable facility for brutality. We must give would-be deserters nightmares. Spare the terror, spoil the soldier.
Player: 1. Goodbye.
Levenbrech Maxim Kazmir: Ah, it's you. Let's get to work.
Player: 1. (Complete contract) I reaped a fair share of deserters. 2. I understand you're well versed in the use of Semuta. 3. Goodbye.
Levenbrech Maxim Kazmir: Such brutality sends a message to the rest. Violence is a solution, but horror is preventative. Prevention is better than a cure.
Player: 1. What do you have for me? 2. Goodbye.
Levenbrech Maxim Kazmir: An entire Harkonnen unit tucked tail and ran. Worse, they have some sensitive documents. Get said documents. Hurting anyone along the way is a bonus.
Player: 1. (Accept contract) I'm on it. 2. I have a few things to attend to first.
Levenbrech Maxim Kazmir: Remember, those documents are the priority.
Player: 1. Goodbye.
Levenbrech Maxim Kazmir: Ah, it's you. Let's get to work.
Player: 1. (Complete contract) The intelligence documents are secured. 2. I understand you're well versed in the use of Semuta. 3. Goodbye.
Levenbrech Maxim Kazmir: Really? Hmmm …
I've been looking for a way back up the ladder, and your talents are key. A rising tide will raise us both. It has to ... It must! Don't ... hmm mind me.
Player: 1. [POLITICAL] In systems of intrigue, such as this, only one rises to the top. 2.Got anything new for me? 3. Goodbye.
Levenbrech Maxim Kazmir: Hmm? It's you! Where have you been? Where-where-where? Nevermind! I've a job for you. We must act quickly!
Player: 1. Go on then. I'm all ears. 2.You seem agitated, Maxim. Strung out even. 3. Goodbye.
Levenbrech Maxim Kazmir: An immense opportunity is within our grasp, and we must seize it. There is a former Atreides hero, now disgraced, by the name of Katrina Chloros.
I have it on good authority that Chloros was once thick as thieves with Captain Tighe Skorda. She knows something about his escapades. She must!
Even as a turncoat, Chloros won't talk to an obvious Harkonnen. So I must send you. Hurry now. Hurry-hurry-hurry!
Player: 1. (Accept contract) I'm on it. 2. You've got the Semuta shakes, Maxim. Troubles with your supplier? 3. I'll think about it.
Levenbrech Maxim Kazmir: Make all haste. With the information Katrina Chloros holds, I shall reap great rewards ... that is, we shall reap great rewards. Now go. Go!
Player: 1. Goodbye.
–
Levenbrech Maxim Kazmir:
Player: 1. We meet again, Maxim.
Levenbrech Maxim Kazmir: You ... you're alive? How ... how fortunate.
Player: 1. No thanks to you, you pale toad. You tried to have me killed. 2. An ambush was set to kill me. Know anything about that? 3. Goodbye.
Levenbrech Maxim Kazmir: What? No ... Lies. Someone is trying to manipulate you. How can you have come so far in the world of espionage and believe such clumsy lies !?
Player: 1. I'm working with Simone now. I rise and you stay at the bottom. 2.Goodbye.
Levenbrech Maxim Kazmir: No ... You cannot trust Simone von Konig! She must have set that ambush for you ... yes! Together, we can thwart her. We can rise to the top. Together!
Player: 1. You shouldn't have betrayed me. Your star could have risen with me. 2.Goodbye.
Levenbrech Maxim Kazmir: I will fantasize of your excruciating demise, until the Semuta makes it seem real, and then I will plot on how to make it so.
Player: 1.Goodbye.
