Sister Mesa: Again, you brighten my immediate vicinity.

Sleeper: Can you teach me anything else?

Sister Mesa: I can help you no more.

Sleeper: Do you know who can help me?

Sister Mesa: Seek out Jocasta Cleo. She was higher up in the order, in line to be a Reverend Mother. Last I heard, she's living in Harko Village. Like me she's an exile.

Sleeper: I see. Well thank you for your help.

Sister Mesa: A minor courtesy, but you are welcome.

Sleeper: Do you work for the Atreides?

Sister Mesa: As a guard, do you suppose? Or a groundskeeper? No, my proximity to their fortress denotes no alliance, loyalty, or employment.

Sleeper: Then why are you here?

Sister Mesa: I am in hiding. Circumstance dictates I keep a low profile in this place on which the universe will soon turn.

Sleeper (A): Are you hiding from Bene Gesserit?

Sister Mesa: It is you who say that I am.

Sleeper (B): What do you mean this place on which the universe will soon turn?

Sister Mesa: The pendulum swings, and it swings from this fulcrum, this planet.

Sleeper: Perhaps I've earned some trust. Perhaps you can tell me why you're on Arrakis.

Sister Mesa: Perhaps you have... I am hiding from Bene Gesserit. I once belonged to the order, but that relationship was not entirely successful.

Sleeper: What happened?

Sister Mesa: I narrowly escaped execution.

Sleeper (A): How did things go so wrong?

Sister Mesa: I was devoted pupil. They say I was obsessed with learning about the Missionaria Protectiva. No doubt to discredit me out of fear of what I'd learn.

[Next] Sister Mesa: At first, my concerns were dismissed. Then, I was warned. I persisted. It escalated until I found myself rifling through a Reverend Mother's papers.

[Next Sister Mesa: I nearly killed the one who found me. While I waited execution, a cadre of my sisters, those who saw sense in my suspicions, helped me to escape.

Sleeper (A question): What did you learne?

Sleeper (B question): What can you tell me about the Missionaria Protectiva?

Sister Mesa: The Missionaria Protectiva. The 'black arms of superstition'. At first my interests were academic, but by and by I saw disturbing patterns.

[Next] Sister Mesa: I saw plans within plans. manipulations stretching over the universe. Religious engineering. The planting of superstitions into primitive cultures.

[Next] Sister Mesa: Seeds of manipulation that take generation to germinate. To what end? I fear some hidden force, perverts the purpose of the sisterhood to some dread end.

Sleeper (A): I think you're on to something.

Sleeper (B): Paranoia has devoured your mind.

Sister Mesa (A answer): Then there is still hope that the truth will out.

Sister Mesa (B answer): You sound like the one who dismissed me.

Sister Mesa: I narrowly escaped execution.

Sleeper (B): You really know how to offend a religious order.

Sleeper (A question): What can you tell me about the area?

Sister Mesa: I'd say this is the safest spot for quite a distance in every direction. Sandflies to the west, and Slavers all arround.

Sleeper: Sandflies? Who are they?

Sister Mesa: Traitorous Dune Men. It's true their lot was a hard one, but they imagined to choose there fait. Ridiculous. Their place in the Imperium was a honor.

Sleeper: Do the Sandflies ever come this far east?

Sister Mesa: Rarely. But if you intend to travel around, be well prepared for battle. You might want to equip yourself with some weapons and ammunition.

Sleeper: Where else can I go?

Sister Mesa: To the north, you will find a tradepost, Pinnacle Station.

[Next] Sister Mesa: There is another tradepost, further away, to the west of here. Follow the edge of the desert, and you will not miss it.

[Next] Sister Mesa: But be warned - I've heard rumors of raving fanatics out west.

Sleeper (B): I can't just stay here.

Sister Mesa: I don't advise it. Atreides house troops fear my gaze and give me a wide berth. But you? Their honor to the Duke will not spare you from a trashing.

Sleeper [HONORABLE]: The Duke would not mistreat a Caladan native like that.

Sister Mesa: Your naivete is rare and pure, but not of any particular use.
